Pardon the Weeds – We are Feeding the Bees
We are very excited to have partnered with the Town of Stratford and the Stratford Watershed to bring local residents in Stratford a free yard sign to show everyone why they are not cutting their lawn. By allowing the dandelions to grow they are providing an abundant food source for bees and many other pollinators that rely on this food source early in the spring. Dandelions provide bees a source of nectar and pollen which helps bees boost their hive quickly in the spring. We know that you think a dandelion is a weed and unsightly at times – however, to a bee – it’s their breakfast, lunch and supper. When you cut your grass in this crucial time period where dandelions are blooming it would be the same as someone removing all your food from your fridge.
PEI Bees (Troy Fraser) designed and printed the posters – paid for by the Town of Stratford in partnership. My hope is next year, these signs will be all over PEI and I am encouraging you to contact your town, municipality or even the Province of PEI to take on this initiative in your community. If you would like more information on how your town can promote pollinator health and wellness please contact me.
Signs are full colour, 12×12 double sided with metal H stands.
